Team Standings
Tour Leader: Linus Gerdemann (T-Mobile)
Best Sprinter: Tom Boonen (Quick Step)
King of the Mountains: Sebastian Chavanel (Cofidis)
Best New Rider: Linus Gerdemann (T-Mobile)

There are a couple of attempted breakaways after the intermediate sprint, but none of them stick until a six man breakaway composed of Fofonov (C.A), Martinez (DSC), Lefevre (BTL), Vaugrenard (FDJ), Gerdemann (TMO), Perez (EUS) manage to breakaway and who are then joined piecemeal by 9 others for a total of 15 riders.

Astana team rider Alexandre Vinokourov of Kazakhstan riding. He managed to finish in the main peloton despite continuing needing to be bandaged up like a mummy.

A rare sight - race-leader Fabien Cancellara, acknowledging he will not be defending the yellow jersey, leads the peloton in serious pursuit of the escapees with 40-kilometres to go.

The Col de la Colombiere climb broke apart the breakaway group. Here are Gerdemann and Landaluze in the lead.

But Gerdemann outstrips Landaluze on the mountain and after a fantastic, fast descent, finishes 40 seconds ahead of Landaluze and 3 minutes ahead of the peloton.

Cancellera holds up seven fingers as he crosses the line. He did a great job wearing the yellow for a week, but his time in the sun is over!

Gerdemann is not only the stage winner, he wins the Yellow jersey, the White jersey (He won't turn 25 until September), AND the Most Aggressive Rider for the Day!!

Date: 2007-07-15 06:27 am (UTC)I love the shot of Gerdemann in the yellow on the podium. The TV coverage was so flashing and fast, it's good to see that ecstatic smile clearly. And without the mad dog frothing. *G*
