coreopsis, but I couldn't resist making changes after she saw it. All errors and inadequacies are mine.
When Greg kissed him, Nick was relieved. For how unexpected the kiss was, he couldn't believe just how much. He dropped his game controller to pull Greg closer and returned the kiss in full measure.
They necked for long moments, beeping and gun sounds emitting from the game screen on the television in front of them. Finally Greg pulled back and rested his forehead on Nick's. He said, "Wow."
Nick just nodded and then pulled Greg into another long kiss. These kisses fulfilled some deep need that Nick hadn't even been aware was there. He knew on a normal day he might have been frightened by the intensity, but this was anything but a normal day. Three dead children and insufficient evidence to catch the killer, despite all of the CSI's combined efforts, made this anything but a usual day. Nick wanted to forget everything about this day and Greg’s kisses were doing just that. The sucking heat of Greg’s mouth consumed him and the rest of his thoughts faded to nothing.
This time it was Nick who pulled back, but just enough to whisper, "Bed," against Greg's lips. Greg moaned and scrambled to his feet, pulling Nick with him. Nick resisted for an instant, wondering if this was a good idea. It was certainly unexpected. But one look at the way desire radiated out of Greg’s face and Nick felt that need spiking again. This may not be a good idea, but it felt like a necessary one. The way to the bedroom was a mad rush of discarding clothing and kissing.
Greg's warm, toned skin and supple body registered briefly before Nick had it under him on the bed. Greg was thrusting as heatedly as he was and Nick moaned and gripped Greg's hips to sync their thrusts together. Nick’s fingers tightened convulsively when Greg’s cock nestled nicely alongside his. Once they found a rhythm, the intensity quickly overcame both of them. Greg came with a muffled shout, quickly followed by Nick.
Nick lay panting on Greg for a couple moments, before rolling over to the side with a heartfelt groan. Greg used a dirty t-shirt to clean himself off and passed it over to Nick. With a shrug, Nick followed suit. He was already a mess and would need a shower. The shirt was just to take care of the worst of it. He wasn’t so fastidious that he’d sniff at a dirty shirt and stay caked in come.
Then they lay quietly next to each other for awhile. Nick dozed softly until thoughts of the day intruded, forcing him awake. The burning need he’d felt retreated and rationality reared its ugly head. Nick had always avoided dating people he worked with. He liked having a life separate from the stress of the job and being able to leave it all behind when he clocked out. In the past it had never been a chore, just the way he did things.
That was until he met Greg. Everyday their flirting was a bittersweet reminder of his rule. He never expected it to lead anywhere, for Greg to pursue it. Greg had always struck him as all talk and no action. It kind of amazed him how wrong he had been on that front. The intensity he felt also surprised him. Attraction was one thing, something he was familiar with, but this burning need was new. They obviously couldn’t undo what they’d done, and honestly Nick didn’t know if he wanted to. He already wanted to do it again, do it slower and do it right.
"What are you thinking?"
Turning his head towards Greg's on the pillow next to him, Nick shrugged as best he could and said, "Nothing. The job." Greg was all mussed up with beard-burn around his mouth. His eyes were still dark with desire and his voice was liquid and deep. Nick didn’t want to tell Greg he was marveling at Greg’s go-get-him attitude and sexiness.
Greg grimaced. "You really need to learn how to let these things go. Of course, I'm not one to talk, but still. We did all we could."
"Not the case." Nick didn't let his mind dwell on the case, not even for a moment. They had found all the evidence there was to find and that would have to be enough. He’d rather obsess about Greg and him than think about the case.
Turning on his side and propping his head on one fist, Greg said, "Oh?"
"Just work in general." Greg continued to look at him. "How this changes things."
Greg looked confused and a little indignant. "You think this changes things at work?" Greg’s voice was losing its relaxed qualities. Nick really had to learn how to shut his mouth after sex. He always did this.
Going for broke, Nick propped his own head on his hand and mirrored Greg's pose. "Doesn't it?"
"Only superficially. You're not my boss or anything. So we're closer, big deal. You and Warrick have been close for a long time now. That hasn't affected your work."
"A friendship is different."
"Not really. And what are you really wondering? If I can be professional?" Nick hadn't meant to make Greg defensive. Hell, he hadn't meant to discuss this at all, but Greg always seemed to catch him off-guard and get him to reveal things he meant to keep hidden. That was how they’d progressed beyond work to real friends in the first place.
Trying to do some damage control, Nick reached out and rubbed Greg's arm. "No, I know you can."
Greg twitched his arm away from Nick’s caress. "Than what?"
"Just. Is this a smart idea?" Since Nick had already been backed into a corner with this conversation, he might as well lay all his fears out. Who knew, he might actually figure out what they were doing.
Greg’s sleepy, sexy demeanor was gone, replaced with a sharp, intuitive look and the beginning of a grimace. "Because we work together?"
"Yeah."
Running his hand through his hair, Greg paused. "Are you worried you can't be professional?" He looked like he was floundering. Nick could sympathize. He didn’t know what he meant either.
Nick groped for an answer. That wasn't his problem, but he didn't have words for what made him uneasy about the situation. "No, I'm worried that all we have is work."
"I'd like to think that we have more in common than just that. We hung out today because we knew we could avoid work together." Now Greg looked exasperated.
Rolling over, Nick threw his arm over his face. "No, I know." Nick was beginning to feel like a jerk. This wasn't the type of thing he should have brought up, even if it was on his mind. He knew better. Especially since he wasn't trying to stop the relationship now that it had started. The rightness he had felt when Greg kissed him hadn’t completely faded from his mind yet.
Greg sighed. "Then what's the problem?"
Deciding to just be honest, Nick said, "I don't know. I've always avoided work relationships. I don't know what to make of this."
Hesitantly Greg said, "Well, we can ignore it." Nick could hear the unhappiness in his voice. Greg wanted this as much as Nick did. He might even want it more considering he had made the first move. Now Nick really felt like a jerk.
Nick peeked out from under his arm. "I think we are way past ignoring it."
Greg grinned at him and looked relieved. Nick grinned back and said, "I'm sorry, man. Ignore me." Ridiculously, Nick felt better. Nothing had been settled, but saying his fears out loud and hearing how silly Greg thought they were was a relief. Maybe avoiding work relationships had been right before Greg, but there was no reason he couldn’t change his mind now.
Straddling Nick's hips, Greg braced his arms on either side of Nick's head and said, "I can think of better ways to pass the time." He rolled his hips in a sinfully arousing manner and Nick's breath caught.
Nick said, "Show me." He then pulled Greg down into another kiss and let the rising need carry him away again.

Date: 2007-09-29 02:00 pm (UTC)I also second the guh! on the Greg with beard-burn line. Very hot picture.
Also, I clicked on the link expecting Nick/Spencer Reid. Apparently, I don't read beyond the first two words in a sentence. ::slaps forehead::

Date: 2007-09-29 02:06 pm (UTC)But, he's never dated someone from work before, he has concerns! Heh. I just needed to get this out of my head to deal with Nick's concerns about dating someone from work in order to read Nick/Greg stories.
Hahaha! The Nick/Spencer Reid story is coming! I'm actually working on it right now. It might be a couple weeks considering it still has to go through beta, but look for it soonish. It's pretty smokin', if I do say so myself.

Date: 2007-09-29 04:33 pm (UTC)Ain't that the truth? Greg definitely deserves better than that. Nick will just have to make it up to him.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for commenting. :-)
